Hemp has been used by us for thousands of years, discovered in ancient civilization at least 8000 B.C. Penalized for years in U. S. for being in the similar family as Cannabis, it actually a plant of different characteristics - it doe NOT have the same effect when smoked. Legally it is defined as ‘‘Industrial Hemp’’ means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of such plant, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.
Hemp fiber is one of the strongest and most durable of all natural textile fibers. It lasts well and it gets more comfortable and softer the more is used. Hemp fabric works well for people with sensitive skin because of the lack of bleaching used in the processing, though it has heavier texture.
Some of hemp's amazing qualities is the resistance to mold, creating anti-bacterial properties and well tolerating of ultraviolet light. Hemp fiber has porous nature, which allows it to "breathe," so that it is cool in warm weather and naturally warm in cooler weather.
Hemp was grown in U.S. for a long time starting with colonial farmers (some famous ones are George Washington and Thomas Jefferson). The Constitution and Declaration of Independence were drafted on hemp paper. Hemp is used in many areas: textiles of course, energy generation, paper, construction, bio-plastics, food, cosmetics, and more. Why is it illegal to grow industrial hemp in U.S.A.? Just a nonsense that we need to change.
